Guatemala, Finca La Bendicion / Medium Roast Coffee
Our new micro-lot Guatemalan coffee comes from Finca La Bendicion, through our partners Truth Trading Company. 85 years ago Vicente Gomez and his wife Maria Reyes purchased a plot of land in the village of Sanguayaba, Palencia. This 42-hectare property produces both washed and natural processed coffees, however, we’ve always been partial to washed coffees for their crisp, clean flavor.
Many years later Vicente and Maria’s son Jose Gomez inherited the farm and began planting potatoes and corn. Dairy cattle were also raised on the land, but it was short-lived as many of the animals fell to their death on the steep hills.
In 1997 Jose Gomez rebranded the land and began growing coffee. He called it Finca La Bendicion. Today he works with his son Jose and they are experimenting with new varieties, in addition to building their own wet mill with African Beds for drying.
This is a washed whole bean coffee. Ground options are available.

RELATIONSHIPS
All things being equal, we want to collaborate with people we can have long lasting friendships with. Even though quality is always top of mind, what is equally imporant are the relationships we’ve developed over the years with farmers and green coffee reps.
ROASTING COFFEE
All of our coffee is roasted on our new, state-of-the-art Loring S15. The Loring is the most energy efficient, consistent and quality focused coffee roaster in the market. Our goal is to roast each coffee in order to maximize its natural flavors without imparting any roast characteristics. This makes our coffee rich, sweet and flavorful.
BREWING COFFEE
Brewing coffee is one of the most overlooked processes in the entire chain. Especially at home, most people do not take the time to learn or implement proper brewing techniques. This can lead to poorly extracted coffee and inconsistent flavor. Focus on dosing out a consistent weight of coffee to water and using a proper burr grinder to grind your coffee right before brewing.
